Images in Slate

The "Images in Slate Collection" is a new category of artisan renderings done on slate. Normally the tiles are 12" square and some are a larger 16" square. The slate is sometimes colored with patina powders to help the images to "pop". The edges are shaped with tile cutters and files to add interest to the piece. The finished artwork is then clear coated to protect the coloring and add depth to the image. Different hangers are attached to the pieces...sometimes a single leather wrapped steel ring is attached in the center of the piece at the top for hanging and sometimes a leather cord or strap is affixed at the top. Semi-precious stones or beads are sometimes attached the the artwork.
